Congratulations Aiden! His unique course has been published on Udemy
Last week, I introduced an education course developed by Aiden, my protégé, using the audio version of my best-selling book Substack Mastery. He added attractive videos and PowerPoint slides, turning the chapters into an excellent curriculum with questions and assignments for learners.
After completing the course, Aiden called me and said, “Dr. Yildiz, thank you for letting me convert your book into an education program. May I ask one more favor?”
I said, “Of course, Aiden. You can ask for as many favors as you want. You have been supporting my Medium publications for more than two years as a volunteer editor and curator. What can I do for you?”
He said, “I know it might be a big ask, but I wonder if you could publish this course through your Udemy account. You are a certified trainer and have a strong reputation. My following is limited on Medium, Substack, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms. I want this course to reach as many people as possible because there is no course like it on Udemy yet.”
I said, “Of course, Aiden, but my time is limited, so I may not be able to create the curriculum quickly. I can work on it during the weekends, but it might take a while.”
He said, “No worries, Dr Yildiz. If you could please create the course intro and give me access to your account, I can handle the tedious tasks and apply for approval.”
I quickly set up the course using my certified account and handed it over to Aiden. He uploaded the videos and created the curriculum in just a few days.
The course was reviewed by Udemy’s quality assurance team and passed the QA process with only a minor change request. I plan to cover this process in another story as guidance for aspiring Udemy instructors.
This morning, I was informed that the course had been successfully published, and three people had already enrolled. Then, on my Slack workspace, I saw an inspiring note from Dr. Michael Broadly:
“G’day @Aiden (Illumination Gaming)! I completed your fantastic course on Udemy and downloaded my certificate. Thank you for creating it and giving me a 25% discount, mate. You are too generous. Here is my proud certificate. I will add it to my LinkedIn profile if I can figure out how to do it.”
Dr. Broadly shared a screenshot of his certificate, which warmed my heart. I said, “Congratulations, Mike. You are not only an avid reader but also an enthusiastic watcher and listener!”
Challenges of Video Creation and Editing for YouTubers
For those who make YouTube videos, you know how much effort goes into creating and editing even a five-minute video. Aiden professionally edited 90 minutes of video for this course for level 1 learners and did over 2 hours for level 2 and 3 learners.
I have been creating videos for my corporate clients for many years, but editing has always been my most tedious and time-consuming part, so I had to delegate it to professionals like Aiden.
In 2002, I spent an entire weekend editing an introductory video for a keynote conference presentation in the US. It took me 24 hours, and I was still unhappy with the result. Since then, I have always hired video editors. It is an investment but saves me time and ensures professional results.
As a professional videographer and cinematographer, Aiden offered to edit all my work videos for free as a token of gratitude for using my book content. When I offered to pay him, he insisted on doing it without compensation. As Dr. Broadly said, Aiden is an incredibly generous soul.
